Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most famous trekking routes in the world, traversing diverse climates, vegetation, and cultural zones. Travelers experience a variety of tastes of nature trails each day during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, from the lush vegetation of rain and temperate forests to the alpine environment of the Sanctuary. ABC Trek is a relatively easy, shorter trek than other high-altitude treks in Nepal.
During the Annapurna Base Camp trek, you pass through the Gurung villages of Ghandruk, Chomrong, and Landrung, offering rhododendron and bamboo forests to Hinko Cave. Beyond Hinko, see excellent views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. Also, ABC passes through MBC (Machhapuchhre Base Camp). What a blissful moment. Visit two base camps in one trip!
The trek to Annapurna Base Camp requires good stamina and strength. You will be walking 4 to 5 hours a day straight, so make sure you don't run out of breath quickly. To build your strength, you might want to start walking up steep hills and working out before you book the trip. Swimming, jump roping, yoga, cardio workouts, and other forms of exercise will help you prepare for the journey.
Besides physical fitness, you also need to take care of your mental health. If you are not in the right place mentally, the whole journey will be a blur for you. Try meditating, taking deep breaths, and relaxing whenever you feel stressed.
Kathmandu - Pokhara - Nayapul - Ghandruk - Chhomromg - Dovan - Macchapucchre Base Camp - Annapurna Base Camp - Bamboo - Jhinu Danda - Nayapul - Pokhara
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu(1350m), we'll be greeted by the invigorating scent of the Himalayan air. Our recruits will be waiting at the airport to welcome you with traditional hospitality. Once transferred to the hotel, you'll have the opportunity to unwind or venture out to explore the vibrant streets of Kathmandu.
After checking into the hotel and refreshing, your circuit guide will brief you on the necessary formalities and the upcoming program. Depending on your arrival time, you can choose to visit nearby shrines or simply rest. The juxtaposition of ancient architecture and lively markets here offers a captivating glimpse into Nepalese culture. It's the perfect way to start your adventure in this enchanting country.
You will travel to Pokhara either by a scenic flight (25 minutes) or a comfortable drive (6–7 hours). Pokhara is the gateway to the Annapurna region, known for its peaceful lakes and mountain views. After arrival, you can relax by Phewa Lake or prepare your gear for the trek starting the next day.
The day will begin with an approximately 2 hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. After that, we will trek for approximately 4 hours to Ghandruk, where we will spend the night in a guesthouse. The trail passes through terraced farmlands and riverside paths before ascending toward Ghandruk. This traditional Gurung village offers stunning views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. The day introduces both cultural and natural beauty while gradually starting altitude gain.
Leaving Ghandruk, the trail descends to Kimrong Khola and then climbs steadily to Chhomrong. This village sits on a ridge and serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary. The walk includes stone staircases and forest trails, with increasingly dramatic mountain scenery.
The trek continues with a descent to the Chhomrong Khola followed by a climb through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests. Passing places like Sinuwa and Bamboo, you gradually reach Dovan. The trail becomes quieter and more immersed in nature, with fewer settlements and more forested surroundings. For approximately 5.5 hours, we will trek to Dovan, where we will spend the night in a guesthouse.
From Dovan, you ascend gently along the Modi Khola valley, passing Himalaya Hotel before reaching Deurali. Vegetation starts thinning as you move into alpine terrain. The landscape becomes more rugged and dramatic, and this gradual climb is important for proper acclimatization.
This is the highlight of the trek. You walk through a glacial basin to reach Machhapuchare Base Camp, surrounded by towering peaks. Continuing onward, you arrive at Annapurna Base Camp, a natural amphitheater offering panoramic views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare. The sense of scale and beauty is extraordinary.
You wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas from Annapurna Base Camp. After breakfast, you begin a long descent, retracing your route past Machhapuchare Base Camp, Deurali, and Dovan before reaching Bamboo. Descending brings easier breathing and a noticeable change in vegetation.
Continuing downhill, you pass through Sinuwa and Chhomrong before heading to Jhinu Danda. Here, you can enjoy natural hot springs by the river, a perfect way to relax your muscles after several days of trekking. This day combines physical descent with relaxation.
You complete the final section of the trek with a short walk to Siwai, followed by a drive back to Pokhara. After days in the mountains, returning to the comfort of Pokhara offers a refreshing contrast. The evening can be spent relaxing, enjoying good food, or exploring the lakeside area.
You travel back to Kathmandu by flight or road. Upon arrival, you can enjoy free time for shopping or sightseeing before a farewell dinner. This marks the successful completion of your Annapurna Base Camp trek.
