A guided Himalayan motorbike journey from Kathmandu to Besisahar, Chame, Manang, Khangsar, Pisang, Gorkha and back to Kathmandu, designed for riders who want a compact but rewarding Annapurna road adventure.

Tour Overview

The Premium Manang Motorcycle Tour is a compact yet deeply rewarding Himalayan riding journey into one of Nepal’s most celebrated mountain valleys. The route connects the lively streets of Kathmandu with the Marsyangdi River corridor, the rugged Annapurna road, the alpine villages of Chame, Pisang and Manang, and the high settlement of Khangsar near the Tilicho route.

Unlike a standard road holiday, this journey is built around the changing rhythm of Nepal’s mountain roads. One section may feel smooth and relaxed, while the next brings gravel, cliffside tracks, narrow bends, waterfalls, river crossings, loose stones and steep climbs. The reward is an intense connection with the landscape, the people and the road itself.

Manang is famous among trekkers as part of the Annapurna Circuit, but reaching it by motorbike creates a different kind of experience. Riders move through subtropical valleys, pine forests, apple orchards, Buddhist villages, windswept plateaus and open Himalayan scenery in a short period of time. The ride offers close views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Manaslu and the surrounding ranges.

This tour is designed for riders who want adventure without committing to a very long expedition. It is suitable for confident riders with previous mountain or mixed-road experience, and it can also be customized for private groups with different comfort levels. A professional guide, support jeep and mechanical assistance give the journey a safer and more organized character.

What Makes This Ride Different

  • A focused 10-day riding route into Manang Valley, one of the most scenic sections of the Annapurna region.
  • A strong combination of paved highway, rough mountain roads, gravel tracks, river valleys and alpine settlements.

  • A compact adventure that includes Kathmandu, Besisahar, Chame, Manang, Khangsar, Pisang and historic Gorkha.
  • Support arrangements suitable for riders who want organized logistics, safer route management and comfort.

Manang Riding Features

The Manang Motorcycle Tour is best understood as a mixed-terrain Himalayan ride. The early part of the route follows major highways and river corridors, while the Annapurna road from Besisahar onward becomes narrower, rougher and more dramatic. Riders should expect gravel, dust, stone sections, waterfalls crossing the road, occasional mud and steep uphill or downhill segments.

The journey is not intended as a race. It is designed as a guided riding experience where the daily schedule allows time for rest, photography, cultural contact and careful riding through difficult sections. The road can change quickly after rain, landslides or local maintenance work, so flexibility is part of the adventure.

Although the tour does not cross Thorong La Pass, it still reaches high-altitude settlements above 3,000 meters. Riders should be physically comfortable with long riding days, cold mornings, highland wind and simple mountain lodges.

Useful Information for Manang Motorcycle Tour

Best Season

The best seasons for the Manang Motorcycle Tour are spring and autumn. Spring, from March to May, usually brings pleasant weather, longer daylight and fresh greenery in the lower valleys. Autumn, from September to November, is considered the most stable season, with clearer skies, drier roads and excellent mountain visibility.

The broader operating window can extend from March to November, but monsoon months may bring rain, mud, landslides and difficult road conditions on the Besisahar to Manang section. Winter can be cold in Manang and Khangsar, with possible snow or ice affecting higher sections. The final decision should consider road condition, weather forecast and rider experience.

Difficulty Level

This tour is rated moderate to adventurous. It is not a beginner city ride, but it is also not an extreme expedition if the rider has proper control and patience. The main challenges are long riding days, changing road surfaces, gravel, loose stones, narrow mountain roads, steep climbs, downhill riding and high-altitude wind.

Riders should be able to handle clutch control, slow-speed balance, braking on gravel, uphill starts, downhill sections and riding while standing on foot pegs when necessary. The route becomes most demanding between Besisahar, Chame, Manang and Khangsar.

Recommended Riding Profile

  • Comfortable riding 5 to 7 hours per day on mixed road surfaces.
  • Previous experience on gravel, mountain roads or rough rural roads is strongly useful.
  • Ability to maintain balance at low speed on uneven roads.
  • Confidence with uphill and downhill riding.
  • Good physical condition for long riding days and cold highland conditions.
  • Willingness to follow guide instructions and maintain group riding discipline.

Altitude and Acclimatization

The tour reaches approximately 3,756 meters at Khangsar, so altitude should be taken seriously. Although this is lower than major Himalayan passes, riders gain elevation faster than trekkers, which can make the body react more quickly to thinner air.

Common mild symptoms may include headache, tiredness, dizziness, loss of appetite or disturbed sleep. Riders should drink enough water, eat properly, avoid alcohol at higher altitude, ride at a steady pace and inform the guide immediately if symptoms appear. The itinerary includes shorter riding stages in the upper valley to help riders adjust.

Permits and Documents

The Manang route passes through the Annapurna region, so conservation area permits or other route-related documents may be required depending on current regulations and final itinerary design. Gateway Adventure will advise riders before departure and arrange the necessary permits when included in the package.

  • Valid passport and Nepal visa.
  • Valid motorcycle driving license.
  • International driving permit, strongly recommended for foreign riders.
  • Travel insurance details and emergency contact information.
  • Passport-size photos, if required for permits.
  • Copies of passport, visa, insurance and license, both printed and digital.

Motorcycle and Support*

Gateway Adventure uses motorcycles suitable for Himalayan mixed-terrain riding. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a practical choice because it is comfortable, stable and repairable in Nepal. Depending on availability and package category, Royal Enfield Classic or similar models may also be arranged. Bike upgrades can be discussed during booking.

A support jeep can carry luggage, tools, spare parts and emergency supplies. The support vehicle also gives riders the option to rest if they become tired, subject to road accessibility. On difficult terrain, the team may adjust the riding order, rest stops or timing for safety.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation during the Manang Motorcycle Tour combines comfortable city hotels with practical mountain lodges. In Kathmandu and larger towns, riders stay in selected hotels based on the package category. Once the route enters the Annapurna and Manang region, accommodation is usually in local lodges or teahouses.

Mountain lodges are simple but warm and welcoming. Rooms usually have twin beds and blankets, while bathrooms may be attached in some places and shared in others. Hot showers, WiFi and device charging may be available for an additional local charge. Facilities become more basic as the route moves toward Manang and Khangsar.

Meals along the route normally include Nepali, Tibetan and basic continental options such as Dal Bhat, noodles, fried rice, soup, momo, potatoes, eggs, Tibetan bread, tea and coffee. Local apple products around Bhratang and Manang region may be available seasonally. Riders should eat enough carbohydrates and warm meals to maintain energy.

Safety and Responsible Riding

Safety is central to the Manang Motorcycle Tour. The route is beautiful but unpredictable, and every rider must respect the road, weather and local traffic conditions. The guide will set the daily riding pace, identify difficult sections and coordinate stops for rest and bike checks.

  • Always wear helmet, gloves, protective jacket, riding pants and boots.
  • Do not overtake on blind turns or narrow cliffside sections.
  • Keep enough distance from the rider ahead, especially on dust, gravel and downhill sections.
  • Ride at a pace that matches your ability, not the speed of the fastest rider.
  • Avoid alcohol before or during riding hours.
  • Follow the guide, road captain and mechanic instructions at all times.
  • Stop and inform the guide if you feel tired, dizzy, unwell or unsafe.
  • Respect local villages, pedestrians, animals, temples and cultural sites.

Preparation and Fitness

The Manang Motorcycle Tour is more enjoyable when riders prepare physically and mentally. Long hours on the saddle can stress the back, shoulders, wrists, knees and core muscles. Basic endurance training, stretching and practice rides before arrival are highly recommended.

  • Practice riding on gravel, dirt roads, uphill bends and downhill sections before the tour.
  • Build endurance through walking, cycling, jogging or regular gym activity.
  • Strengthen core, shoulders, legs and lower back for better posture on rough roads.
  • Practice standing on foot pegs and slow-speed balance in a safe area.
  • Prepare mentally for delays, road changes, dust, cold, traffic and simple lodges.
  • Arrive with proper riding gear rather than relying only on rented equipment.

Customization Options

Gateway Adventure can customize the Manang Motorcycle Tour based on the riding ability, group size, comfort preference, season and available travel days. Private departures are recommended for riders who want flexibility and a more personal experience.

  • Extra rest or acclimatization day in Manang.
  • Hotel upgrade in Kathmandu or other major towns.
  • Support jeep upgrade for smaller groups.
  • Motorcycle upgrade depending on availability.
  • Additional sightseeing in Kathmandu or Gorkha.
  • Photography-focused departure with longer scenic stops.
  • Extension toward Tilicho trekking route, subject to safety and route condition.

Day-wise Itinerary
Detailed itinerary for 10 Days Manang Motor Bike Tour

Welcome to Nepal. After completing airport formalities, a Gateway Adventure representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu.

The rest of the day is kept relaxed so you can recover from the flight and prepare for the ride. In the evening, your guide will explain the route, riding conditions, safety practices, permit requirements, support arrangements and daily schedule.

A short bike inspection or test ride can be arranged if time allows. This helps riders become familiar with the motorcycle, traffic style and basic road behavior in Nepal before starting the journey to Pokhara.

  • Transport: Airport Pickup
  • Time: Approx. 30 to 45 minutes transfer
  • Max altitude: 1350 m
  • Accomodation: Hotel in Kathmandu
  • Meals included: NA

After breakfast, the ride begins from Kathmandu and gradually leaves the busy city traffic behind. We ride west through Kalanki and Naubise, joining the Prithvi Highway as it follows the Trishuli River corridor. The road includes highway traffic, bends, bridges, small towns and changing hill scenery.

The ride continues through river valleys, terraced farmland and roadside settlements. Riders will begin to feel the difference between city riding and Nepal’s open highway conditions, where patience, spacing and awareness are important. Regular stops are planned for tea, water, photography and lunch.

From Dumre, we turn toward Besisahar and enter the Marsyangdi River Valley. The road becomes narrower and more regional in character, with a mix of smoother and rougher sections. Besisahar is the traditional starting point for many Annapurna Circuit journeys and becomes the practical gateway for the Manang riding section.

Day highlights

  • Scenic ride through the Prithvi Highway and Trishuli River Valley.
  • First full riding day with mixed traffic and hill-road experience.
  • Entry into the Marsyangdi Valley toward the Annapurna region.
  • Overnight in Besisahar before the mountain road begins.
  • Distance: 175 km
  • Time: 6 to 7 hours
  • Max altitude: 760 m
  • Accomodation: Hotel or lodge in Besisahar
  • Meals included: Breakfast

Today is one of the most adventurous riding days of the Manang Motorcycle Tour. From Besisahar, the road follows the Marsyangdi River and climbs gradually into the Manang district. The surface becomes rougher, with gravel, stones, narrow passages, waterfalls crossing the road and sections where riders must move carefully.

The route passes through villages such as Khudi, Bhulbhule, Ngadi, Chamje, Tal, Dharapani and Timang before reaching Chame. Each settlement shows a different layer of the Annapurna region, from lower river valleys to forested mountain slopes and increasingly Tibetan-influenced village culture.

Riders should expect slow progress, especially if the road has been affected by rain or recent maintenance. The ride requires steady throttle control, balance on rough surfaces and patience in narrow areas. Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, offers a welcome rest after a challenging but memorable day.

Day highlights

  • First major off-road riding section of the tour.
  • Ride through Marsyangdi River Valley and mountain villages.
  • Waterfalls, cliffside road sections and rugged surfaces.
  • Arrival in Chame, gateway to the upper Manang Valley.
  • Distance: 65 km
  • Time: 5 to 6 Hours
  • Max altitude: 2650 m
  • Accomodation: Lodge or teahouse in Chame
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

After breakfast, we ride deeper into the upper Manang Valley. Compared to the Besisahar to Chame section, the road may feel better in places, but it still includes dirt, gravel, rocky patches and narrow corners with steep drop-offs. The riding pace remains careful and controlled.

The route passes through Bhratang, known for its apple orchards, then continues toward Dhukur Pokhari, Pisang and Humde. The landscape begins to open dramatically after Pisang, revealing wider valleys and stronger views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III and surrounding peaks. The air becomes cooler and drier as we climb higher.

Manang is one of the most atmospheric villages in the Annapurna region. Prayer flags, chortens, mountain lodges and wide highland scenery make it a special overnight stop. Depending on arrival time, riders can take a short walk around the village, visit a viewpoint or simply rest and adjust to the altitude.

Day highlights

  • Ride through Bhratang apple area and Pisang Valley.
  • Beautiful views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III and Pisang Peak.
  • Transition into dry alpine terrain and Tibetan-influenced settlements.
  • Overnight in Manang, one of the most famous villages of the Annapurna Circuit.
  • Time: 3 to 4 hours
  • Ascent: 31 km m
  • Max altitude: 3341 m
  • Accomodation: Lodge or guesthouse in Manang
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Today is a shorter riding day, but the route becomes more remote and high-altitude in character. From Manang, we ride toward Khangsar, crossing the Thorong Khola area and following a rough jeep track through open scrubland, dry slopes and sparse settlements.

The road is narrow in places, with loose stones and gravel requiring careful handling. Although the distance is short, the ride should not be rushed because the altitude is higher and the terrain is less forgiving. The views of Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak and the surrounding high valley are outstanding.

Khangsar is an old traditional village located on the route toward Tilicho Lake. Facilities here are basic compared with Manang, but the quiet surroundings, village atmosphere and mountain backdrop make it a meaningful stop. The afternoon can be used for rest, photography and gentle acclimatization.

Day highlights

  • Reach the highest overnight point of the tour at Khangsar.
  • Ride a rough jeep track through dry highland terrain.
  • Views of Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak and Annapurna range.
  • Experience the quiet character of a traditional mountain village.
  • Time: 1 to 2 hours, with exploration time
  • Max altitude: 3756 m
  • Accomodation: Basic lodge or teahouse in Khangsar
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

After breakfast, we begin our return from Khangsar and rejoin the main Manang Valley route. The first section descends through rough tracks, loose stones and narrow portions where careful braking and balance are important.

We ride back through parts of the Manang Valley, passing near Humde and continuing toward Pisang. The scenery remains impressive throughout the day, with open valley views, dry hills, mountain faces and the powerful presence of Annapurna II, Annapurna III and Pisang Peak.

The afternoon winds in this region can be strong, so an early start is recommended. Pisang gives us a calmer overnight stop before the longer descent toward Besisahar the following day. Riders can rest, check the bikes and prepare for the return through the rugged lower Manang road.

Day highlights

  • Descend from Khangsar through rough highland tracks.
  • Ride back across the upper Manang Valley.
  • Enjoy views of Annapurna, Pisang Peak and surrounding ridges.
  • Overnight in Pisang before descending toward Besisahar.
  • Distance: 15 km
  • Time: 3 to 4 hours with stops
  • Max altitude: 3200 m
  • Accomodation: Lodge or teahouse in Pisang
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Today we descend through the same dramatic corridor that brought us into the Manang Valley. Leaving Pisang, we ride through Chame, Timang, Dharapani, Tal and other villages before returning to Besisahar. The descent requires focus because downhill riding on rough roads can be more demanding than climbing.

The route includes rocky sections, waterfall crossings, cliffside bends, bridge crossings and areas affected by dust or mud. Riders should use controlled braking, maintain safe distance and avoid rushing the descent. The support team will coordinate stops for rest, bike checks and photography.

As we return to lower elevation, the landscape becomes greener and warmer again. Besisahar feels lively after the remote mountain villages and provides a good place to rest after completing the main Annapurna riding section.

Day highlights

  • Return through Chame, Dharapani, Tal and Marsyangdi Valley settlements.
  • Long downhill riding day with rough mountain road sections.
  • Transition from alpine landscapes back to warmer foothills.
  • Completion of the main Manang riding route.
  • Distance: 85 km
  • Time: 5 to 6 hours, depending on road condition
  • Max altitude: 760 m
  • Accomodation: Hotel or lodge in Besisahar

After breakfast, we leave Besisahar and ride toward Gorkha, one of Nepal’s most historically important hill towns. The route includes a mixture of paved roads, gravel patches, rural settlements and terraced hillsides.

Upon reaching Abu Khaireni, we turn toward the Gorkha road and climb through scenic villages and farmland. The road is generally more relaxed than the Manang section, but riders should remain aware of traffic, bends and occasional rough patches.

Gorkha is closely associated with the formation of modern Nepal and the legacy of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Depending on arrival time and group interest, a visit toward the Gorkha Palace area can be arranged. The hilltop setting offers cultural depth after several days focused on mountain riding.

Day highlights

  • Scenic ride from Annapurna foothills toward Gorkha.
  • Rural roads, terraced fields and hill settlements.
  • Explore the historical atmosphere of Gorkha.
  • More relaxed riding day after the Manang off-road section.
  • Time: 3 to 4 hours
  • Ascent: 81 km m
  • Max altitude: 1522 m
  • Accomodation: Hotel/Lodge
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Today we complete the riding loop and return to Kathmandu. The route follows familiar highway sections and gradually re-enters the busier traffic pattern of the Kathmandu Valley. The contrast between the quiet mountain roads of Manang and the lively capital city is immediately noticeable.

We plan steady breaks during the ride so the group can stay fresh and focused. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, riders return the motorcycles, check into the hotel and have time to rest, shower, shop or walk around Thamel.

In the evening, a farewell dinner can be arranged to celebrate the successful completion of the Manang Motorcycle Tour. It is a good time to share photos, memories and road stories with the guide, mechanic, support crew and fellow riders.

Day highlights

  • Final riding day back to Kathmandu.
  • Return through Nepal’s central highway corridor.
  • Free evening in Thamel or farewell dinner.
  • Completion of the 10-day Manang Motorcycle Tour.
  • Distance: 141 km
  • Time: 5 to 6 hours
  • Max altitude: 1350 m
  • Accomodation: Hotel
  • Meals included: Breakfast + Dinner

After breakfast, the Gateway Adventure representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport according to your international flight schedule. If your flight is later in the day, you may have free time for last-minute shopping or optional sightseeing.

You depart Nepal with the memory of a powerful Himalayan riding journey through Marsyangdi Valley, Chame, Manang, Khangsar, Pisang and Gorkha. The tour ends, but the rhythm of the road and the views of the Annapurna range stay with you long after the ride.

Day highlights

  • Private airport transfer.
  • Final free time depending on flight schedule.

  • Accomodation: Hotel/Lodge
